Computer has been down so I have been slacking. Two weeks ago we were gonna fish the spot tourny but, decided at last minute not to.(whats up with no check-in at bch blvd. this year?) Pop needed his surround sound hooked up so i pulled the "futher-muker" and my boy Ian down to help out and take pops and uncle karl for a session. Started as early as possible(uncle karl will be late to his own funeral). Grabbed some bait in Flagler Bch.(they have a drive thru bait shop under the bridge. awesome) got some muds, shrimp and crabs for the old timers. Uncle Karl works for the city and knows everybody so they hooked us up royally. Went north on A1A and put in at Bings Landing(nice place) Hit Long creek right off the bat. Looked like the spot to be. Fish were everywhere. Lots of rats schoolin around. Only problem was we threw everything but, the kitchen sink at em and they were very un-responsive. It was like they were all zombies. I even(and this is a first) had a nice red run right into the side of the boat in front of me while I was re-riggin like he just ran into a sliding glass door or something. After about a hour and a half of frustration and a out goin tide, i decided to get out of there and head north towards the inlet. Hit the Rattlesnake Island bridge and alot of docks along the way. got some small hits but, landed nothing. I new the fish were there and i was gettin frustrated. i was startin to believe mom when she says pops was bad luck. I was determined to break the curse. After scratchin my head all mornin i determined i need a cold one. stopped at some bait shop near Devils Elbow(don't know the name) no cold ones to be found but, this guy was hangin out on the deck. wasn't about to give up though. The tide was heading back in so I headed for the inlet. Cruised past the fort (first time I've ever seen it.) They shot the cannon off while we were passing by. It's like Ft. George(red-neck riviera) out there . Everyone hangin out on the beach and sandbars. Headed to the mouth of the inlet by the rocks and some docks and anchored up in about 20 ft of water. I new something would be comin through that bridge the way the current was rippin. Karl was workin some lures, Ian and pop threw out some shrimp and I grabbed the Reds candy. After a few minutes Ian almost put a blue in the boat. By know I'm startin to think mom jinxed us when Ian says "give me one of those crabs" I gave him one and he proceeded to put it on one of the craziest bottom rigs I had ever seen. We'll just call it the putnam county rig for now. After me soakin a crab for 30 minutes and Ian soakin his for 5, Ian"s rod starts scremin and it's fish-on. I was frustrated but, happy to have a quality fish hooked up. Uncle Karl hollas "I think it's a drum" I quickly corrected him and said "Naw, it's a Nice Red fo shore". Was about a good 15 min. fight but, i told Ian don't hoss him, wear him out so we can land this fish and lift the curse. I told him not to get nervous but, he had an audience of about 35 people watchin in aw, because we didn't see anyone else catchin anything. After about 6 good runs and some screamin drag and of course my expert netting skills we got her on board. 30"r successful realease to fight another day and make some babies. Pop didn't catch it but, he enjoyed watchin us in action. I'll put you on one soon pop now that the curse is lifted. needless to say we stayed for about another 45 min. then headed for the ramp. It turned out to be a good day, as any day on the water is for me.
